African achievers in Italy honored at Ghana-Italy Excellence Awards
Many Africans in Italy who have excelled in different fields were also recognized at the Ghana-Italy Excellence Awards. The award giving ceremony held on 1st December 2012 in Brescia, was organized by Divino Event Organization headed by Freda Cooper, a young Ghanaian lady who is committed to encouraging Africans here to be high achievers. The main objective of the Ghana-Italy Excellence Awards is to honor outstanding Ghanaian and other African entrepreneurs, professionals and Italian companies that provide services for immigrants. The awards also honor those committed to promoting African culture and facilitating integration of immigrants in Italy. They also honor Africans and Italians who have excelled in different fields in Italy and helped promote Africa’s image. Victor Emeka Okeadu, Adjunct Councilor of the City Council of Rome, Gloria Hooper, a successful athlete who run at the 2012 Olympics, Alima Moro, the only African female goalkeeper in Italy and Stephen Ogongo Ongong’a, Editor of Africa News received Merit Awards at the ceremony. Special Achievement Awards went to Jean-Lèonard Toudi, MP, Alfredo Cestari, President of Italafrica Chambers of Commerce and Dr. Virgilio Baresi.
The second edition of the Ghana-Italy Excellence Awards was held under the patronage of Ghana Embassy in Rome and the City Council of Brescia. It was co-hosted by Rebecca Jesus Conquer and Sara Benibelli. Guests at the event were entertained by Rebecca Jesus Conquer, Agyenyame Acrobatic, Joyful Choir, Progetto Danza Brescia and rappers Mista Tolu and Nelly Precious. Roberto Bucci Shipping and Forwarding Agency was the headline sponsor of the Ghana-Italy Excellence Awards ceremony. The event was also sponsored by Turkish Airlines, Axim, Mcservice. Divino Event Organization promotes dialogue between Italians and Africans living in Italy. It encourages intercultural exchange through exhibitions, conferences, seminars and shows. Ms. Cooper, who has extraordinary events management skills, believes that Africans in Italy can do better if they are fully integrated into the local society, work together and celebrate their achievements.
